kind of an update

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

We are in a sort of holding pattern right now: waiting for documents, counting the days until the trip to Italy, etc. Here are a few updates for what is happening.

1. The birth cert request went to Sacramento and I will not get it back till mid July by thier reckoning. I have been checking my bank site to see if the state has cashed my check. after nearly 5 weeks, they still haven’t. That makes me nervous. I have had ALOT of things lost in the mail, and while I should have sent this registered or something like that, I didn’t. Well, why not? That was dumb! you might say… yeah, yeah, but it’s too late for that. I actually checked into sending it through UPS or FedEx, but since it was going to a PO box, they couldn’t do it. I should have checked with the USPS, but again too late for that. I just sent it through the mail. Anyway, if they don’t get it, I will have to petition the court again for another court order, so I can send it to Sacramento again…. all of these things take months at a time. I have about 10 months till my appointment at the consulate, but I need to submit the docs with an explanation to the consulate and see if I can get this adoption thing cleared up.

2. The adoption “thing”…. I am convinced that when the consulate officer mentioned adoptions to her contact in Rome, he didn’t understand the situation. Everyone I have talked to, including several Italian nationals that have adopted [as well as looking at various laws] states that the adoption should NOT be a problem in the way that they are saying. There is simply no reason for needing an italian court to recognize it. So…. once I get that original birth cert, then I will submit copies of the entire package to the consulate with a detailed explanation of the situation and let them research it a little more. At which point I am SURE that they will see a court petition as unnecessary. But as you can see, having one-of-a-kind court orders lost in the mail on the way to Sacramento slows the process down. I will have to wait until mid July before they will even answer my questions on the status of my request. If I have to wait 3 months just to find out they never got it, initiate the request again for another court order [another 6 months??] and then wait another 3 months before I can get the birth cert, then I am already out of time. I’m hoping the reason California hasn’t cashed my check yet, is that they have received it, but haven’t opened it or started processing it yet.

3. On the plus side, everything is now arranged and paid for with the upcoming Italy trip. Ronnie and Kristi are excited as well and I can’t wait either. “Non vedo l’ora” like the italians say. Literally translated it means “I don’t see the hour”…. but it actually means ‘I can’t wait’….. I don’t know why either, it just does!

Sorry I haven’t done more updates, but I wanted to have some real updates, not just reiterations of what you’ve already seen.

Well pray for the upcoming trip: safety, Kristi’s health while we are traveling- she has specific diet and medical needs that HAVE to be met, or we will have problems, spiritual insight to our situation and that God’s will in all of this will be further revealed. Pray for both Shelly and I and Ronnie and Kristi to hold firm and not be derailed by any attacks of the enemy.

We need to get together this Friday and iron out some details for the trip coming up. I have been busy with work and other responsibilities, so my mind has not really been focused on the trip coming up, but I need to keep the timeline in perspective. We are leaving in about a month and a half. I still need to firm up the basic trip, which will include staying a few different cities, and then get rental car and hotels booked. Oh, yeah, and get paid for some of the jobs I have done so I can pay for this stuff…….

Pray for money…..

As a freelance artist, It happens every once in a while that I get stretched pretty bad, especially when working on larger projects. I will spend a month doing the work, wait another month or two to get paid, and in the meantime, go nuts, er…… I mean trust God faithfully, that the nightmare will be over quickly. Well, now is one of those times. Given that taxes are coming up, as well as a trip to Italy, this is a……. uh… “less than ideal” time to poor. [As if there is ever a good time to be poor!]
At any rate, pray for money.
I mean for me.
I know I am ; )

Kristi’s passport came in

Got word that Kristi’s passport arrived last friday. Today’s LA Times ran an article about how there is a big crush on passports right now. It normally takes around 6 weeks, but is now taking about 10. Apparently there is usually a big rush for passports early in the year for people trying to finalize summer travel plans. That coupled with new passport requirements for a lot of North American destinations where passports weren’t previously required has upped the demand significantly.

Thank God she got this done early and she has her passport in hand.

Kristi’s Passport

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Kristi applied for her passport around 2 months ago and still no passport in the mail.  Please pray that she will get it in the mail soon.  This week has been a radical one for Kristi and myself.  We both went to a retreat last weekend and we both knocked our backs out.  Make a long story short, chiropractors can be expensive especially when your insurance does not cover it.  We are also trying to save for the trip to Milano, pray that our backs would heal quickly and the Lord would provide the amount of money we will need for the trip.

I want to thank all of you for all of your prayers and support.

Pastor Ronnie

there’s room at the inn, but it’s expensive….

I have been looking online to arrange some of the details for this upcoming trip. I need to find some cheaper arrangements. Usually when we go to Italy, we have five years between the trips, so we can save more money. Having just gone last year, we are pushing our luck to go again this year. The rental car is about what I expected, around 450 bucks for the 10 days. But the lodging…..

Even with a pretty good price for the hotel, it will be expensive for 2 couples in 2 rooms over 10 days. So we are looking into some alternatives. I checked online to see if we could rent an apartment for the 10 days, but that is turning out to be nearly as much for only a week. If it were a month long stay, then it would be cheaper, but for just over a week, not really. Usually when we go, we just stay with my family, but 2 things eliminate that option: my cousin is getting married, so a lot of the family will be coming up and we can’t all stay in a small apartment, AND there are 4 of us this time, not just 2. I need some lodging options.

Italy Trip this June – Viaggio in Italia questo giugno

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

OK, Thank God- He is allowing us to go to Italy this June. We had asked to go since my cousin Ivan and his fiancé Sara are getting married. And neither Ronnie nor Kristi have ever been to Italy and it would be good to go before we actually move there. Pastor Bryan was gracious enough to allow Ronnie and Kristi to go and we get to go while the wedding is happening. We found a good price on the tickets too. This has been an answer to prayer that we can do this since none of us has lots of moolah right now, but God provides faithfully. More to come on this. OK, Grazie a Dio- possiamo viaggiare in Italia quest’estate.
